Christine Gajewski

Christine L. Gajewski Cox, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026. She was born in Erie on December 22, 1942, to the late Anthony J. Gajewski and Genevieve G. Kulig Gajewski.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Lawrence L. Cox; her sister Rosemary Jez; brothers-in-law George Bunce, James Dean, Ronald Keene, Charles Barth, and Douglas Cox; and sisters-in-law Connie Cox and Sally Keene.

Christine is survived by her five loving children, six cherished grandchildren, and her devoted sister. Her children: Lawrence Cox, Tamara Humphrey (John), Michelle Jobczynski (Ken), Jason Cox (Amber), and Darren Cox (Michelle). Her grandchildren: Mason Keys, Abby Fetzner (Dan), Mya Burns, Jackson Fetzner, Madi Cox, and Coltyn Cox. She is also survived by her sister Ceal Bunce.

She leaves behind many brothers- and sisters-in-law: Lillian Barth; Butch and Gwen Winter; Art and Andrea Cox; Debbie Dean; Martin and Sharon Cox; Scott and Patricia Collins; and Bob Jez. She is fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, all of whom dearly loved their Aunt Chris.

Christine attended nursing school in Buffalo before choosing to devote her life to being a wife and mother. In her later years, she loved attending car shows with her husband Larry, traveling together in his 1952 Chevy. She touched the lives of everyone she met and generously supported numerous charities-her favorite being the Humane Society. But as her children lovingly joked, her favorite "charity" was always her family. Whether it was a big trip or an unexpected expense, she was always ready with an envelope of cash and an even bigger heart.

Christine treasured her outings with her sister Ceal. After both became widows, they became inseparable partners in crime. Though they delighted in bickering, their bond was unbreakable. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, watching TV-especially football-working sudoku puzzles, and reading. One of her happiest places was the porch on 21st Street, where she spent countless hours with her best friend Rosie. That porch became a gathering spot for neighborhood kids, creating memories that lasted a lifetime.

Christine was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren. With her husband on the road for 40 years as an over the road truck driver, she mastered every role at home with strength and grace. To her family, she was nothing short of a "super mom" with "super powers." Few mothers can send four kids off to school, go into labor, and deliver their baby alone at home-but she did.

Above all, Christine will be remembered for her love, kindness, generosity, and the countless ways she made life brighter for those around her.

In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. If you feel moved to honor Chris's life, please consider a donation to the Humane Society, an organization close to her heart. Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th Street, is assisting with arrangements.
