Ruth Barnes

Ruth Barnes Harden, age 76, of Erie, transitioned from labor to reward on October 21, 2016. She was born in Collins, Miss. on September 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Elijah and Lovie Magee Barnes.

Ruth was a 1958 graduate of Collins High School and went on to be employed by Bliley Electric, where she retired in 2009 after 42 years.

She was a member of the Cherry Street Church of God. Ruth was an avid bowler and loved gardening, singing, and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, Larry Harden; three sisters, Ruby McLaurin, Kay Kiadii, and Gloria Fay Barnes; and her brother, Elijah Junior Barnes.

Ruth is survived by three brothers, Albert (Cynthia Jones) Barnes of Erie, Willie (JoAnn) Barnes, and Walter (Mildred) Barnes, both of Collins, Miss.; two sisters, Florence Barnes of Erie and Gladys Badger of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Reverend Richard Harden (Irell); and two sisters-in-law, Betty Reed and Olive Ray Crumbley. She is further survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 602 W. 10th Street (at Cherry St.), on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and are invited to a service at Saint John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
