Lynn Wallerstein

Lynn Wallerstein Huber, 82, passed away peacefully at her home at Clermont Park Retirement Community in Denver, Co. January 9, 2025. This occurred shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Family and friends were with her at her passing.

Born and raised in Erie, Pa, Lynn graduated from Barnard College, received an MSW from Hunter College and a PhD in Social Work from Case Western University. She married her high school sweetheart, Frank Huber, in 1968 and was married for 52 years until his death in 2020.

After initially working as a social worker with families experiencing multiple problems in New York City and Erie, she taught social work for many years at Edinboro State College, a branch of Penn State. She and her husband moved to Tennessee where her growing interest in spirituality and aging found expression working as the Affirmative Aging Officer for the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee. In 2003 she published a book, Revelations on the Road about her spiritual journey to that time.

She and Frank loved the mountains and most summers starting in 1969 spent a lot of time vacationing in and around the Rocky Mountain National Park and nearby Estes Park, Co. After Frank served as an Episcopal Priest in Bowling Green, Ky and Pine Bluff, Arkansas, he became Rector at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Lakewood, Co in 2000 before retiring in 2007. They continued to indulge their love for the Denver area and the mountains, including a climb together to the summit of Long's Peak several decades ago.

Lynn gained energy from and lovingly interacted with many people from a wide variety of backgrounds wherever she lived. In Denver, she was blessed with several close, friendships that were truly family-like in love and support.

She was a spiritual director for many individuals over the years and gave presentations on issues of spirituality, forgiveness and other related issues to numerous varied audiences. Many of her activities focused on supporting people less fortunate and facing difficult challenges both locally and around the world.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura W. Wallerstein, and father, Leon Wallerstein Jr., her mother and father-in-law, Jean and Gene Allue, and her niece, Kellie M Wallerstein. She is survived by, her brother, Larry Wallerstein (Sheila), sister-in-law Barbara Haupt, brother-in-law Tim Alllue, nieces Amy and Laura Wallerstein, nephews Jason King and Robert Wallerstein, many great nieces and nephews, and numerous close friends.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Episcopal Relief and Development, the Helen & Hymen Werner Scholarship Fund of Barnard College or any non-profit institution that speaks to your heart.

A service of remembrance will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Denver on Saturday April 5, 2025 at 2 p.m.
