Laura Guntrum

Laura Jean MacGregor, of North East, PA., went home to the Lord on Saturday, October 8, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born on February 25, 1942, in New Kensington, Pa., and graduated from Academy High School in Erie. Jean retired from Penn State Grape Research Lab in North East, where she was a secretary.

Although she hadn't been hunting or fishing for some years, she always enjoyed spending time in nature – driving country roads and walking parks and the countryside. She was an avid birder and photographer. She was frequently found in her backyard feeding the birds (and also squirrels and chipmunks, unfortunately).

She and her husband, Ned, enjoyed driving to Alaska for their retirement vacation trip and snowbirding in Arizona each winter. Jean was an avid Pirates, Penguins and Steelers fan. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble and cards, along with reading and was a classic movie buff. Jean especially loved being with all her family and dear friends.

Surviving is her husband, Ned; daughters, Jennifer and Becky; three sisters, Sandy Francis (Dan), Donna Fortin (Dennis) and Carol Chanberlin (Mark); and two brothers, Dana Guntrum (Sue) and Joel Guntrum (Cheryl). Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive along with her father-in-law, Ned Sr., brother-in-law, Charles MacGregor (Patricia) and sister-in-law, Susan Jones (Arthur).

Friends will be received Tuesday, October 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with the Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 12 at 11 a.m. at Dusckas Funeral Home, 2607 Buffalo Rd., Erie, Pa., with Evangelist Gale Thornton officiating. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Erie Church of Christ, 2317 W. Grandview Blvd.
