Kenneth D. Tracy, PhD, 58, of Randolph, N.J. died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at his home due to colon cancer.
He was born in Erie and lived in 5 U.S. cities before moving to Randolph 10 years ago.
He received his Bachelor of Science degrees in sanitary and civil engineering from Penn State University in 1964, a Master of Science degree there in sanitary engineering in 1966 and a doctorate in environmental systems engineering from Clemson University in 1973.
He served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps during the Vietnam War and served in the Army Reserves for many years. During his career, he served as director of environmental and energy research for Air Products & Chemicals in Allentown and managed Environmental Dynamics Inc. in Greenville, N.C. He also served as the vice president of environmental technologies at Pfizer's Morris Plains, N.J. plant, retiring in 2000 after 10 years. He served on the board of directors of Datastream Systems, Inc. in Greenville, S.C. and BioChem Inc. in King of Prussia. He also served on the editorial board for the Journal of Environmental Polymer Degradation. He was a member of the International Association of Water Quality and Water Environmental Federation. He was also a member of the State College chapters of Chi Epsilon and Sigma Xi societies and the Delta Chi social fraternity.
He ran several marathons after his cancer diagnosis eight years ago, including the 1997 Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska. He also enjoyed working with wood and building model trains.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Marilyn Spencer Tracy, two daughters, Alison Myers and her husband, Matthew of Ashburn, Va. and Meredith Kirby and her husband, Stephen, of State College, his father, Norman E. Tracy of Erie and a sister Norma Morton of Erie.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Hillview Avenue at Mountain Way, Morris Plains. Burial will be private. Arrangements were handled by the Stephen J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 N. Beverwyke Road, Lake Hiawatha.
