Judith M. Zimmerly Kuffer Sweeney, age 79 passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at her home in Erie. She was born on November 14, 1942 in Erie, PA daughter of the late Herbert and Lola Maxson Zimmerly. A 1960 graduate of Academy High School, she retired from Erie Insurance in Production Control after 23 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, was a Sunday School Teacher, head of the Nursery, belonged to the Ruth Guild and WELCA, and was active on various committees. She was a member of Koinonia and Siebenbuerger Ladies Auxiliary. Her family was most important to her and in addition to her family her interests included music and church activities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Janet Zimmerly, her sister, Donna Zimmerly Hoenes and two brothers, James and Dale Zimmerly.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Raymond Sweeney; two daughters, Pamela Gildersleeve (Frank) and Kathleen Kuffer, both of Erie; a son, Randy Kuffer (Jennifer) of Streetsboro, OH; a stepson, Thomas C. Sweeney of Erie; two stepdaughters, Colleen (Ronald) Eisert and Raeann (Michael) Wolfe, both of Erie; two sisters-in-law, Marge Zimmerly of Green Twp., PA and Natalie Zimmerly of Erie; a brother-in-law, James Hoenes of Erie; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506 on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and are invited to a funeral service at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach Street, Thursday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Glasoe officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16502; or to Shriners Hospital, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
