Dale Thrush

Dale Andrew Thrush of The Sea Ranch, California died suddenly of a heart attack on the morning of February 16, 2019. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his sister-in-law, Patty, his niece, Katie, her husband Matt, and their son Logan, his surviving siblings Brenda, Debra, Barbara, Lori, Bill, Michael and Jeff and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

Dale was born on October 14, 1942 in Kane, Pennsylvania. He attended Erie Academy High School and graduated in 1960. Dale made his way to Southern California where he pursued his studies of architecture at the University of Southern California. He earned a Bachelor of Architecture in 1970, and in 1971, he earned a Master of Urban Design. While working in this field, Dale became interested in the study of law. In 1978, he earned a Juris Doctor from Loyola School of Law.

As a lawyer, his focus was litigation. In 1981, Dale joined a West Los Angeles firm. It was at this firm that he met his future wife, Barbara. Dale and Barbara married in 1986 and enjoyed travels to Paris, Venice, Yosemite, Santa Fe and California Adventure, a Disney theme park in Anaheim, CA. The couple shared a love of roller coasters.

Dale loved to dabble in many activities such as cooking, photography, music, science, art, movies, wine and racing sail boats. In 1999, Dale was thrilled to join the crew of Bolt for Transpac99, the 40th Honolulu Race. It was the experience of a lifetime.

Upon his return from Hawaii, Dale switched gears again and joined the City of Los Angeles as a planning director for a council member. He devoted himself to this new endeavor for 10 years before retiring to work as a private government relations consultant.

In September 2014, Dale and Barbara realized a dream they shared and moved from Los Angeles to The Sea Ranch. For over 4 years they lived here with their beloved Welsh Springer Spaniels, Gracie and Dylan, enjoying this magnificent place on the Sonoma Coast. Dale enjoyed working in the Posh Squash garden, being a seal docent during birthing season, exercising in the Young at Heart strength classes and assisting the Sea Ranch Thespians at the White Barn during performances.

On February 14, Dale wrote in his Valentine to Barbara, "To my Great Love, Wow!! We are 35 plus years into this adventure, and it keeps getting better. Thank you for our life and Sea Ranch and the puppies. I love you." He had no regrets. His smile and laugh and love will be missed by many.
