Betty Jean Bailey

Betty Jean Bailey Witherspoon passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023. She was born on May 12, 1942 in Laurel, Mississippi, the youngest of three daughters of the late Morris Alexander Bailey, and Bessie Lee Robinson Bailey.

Betty graduated from Academy High School in 1960, she loved to cook, garden, and watch TV. Her favorite shows were: My 600 LB Life, Naked & Afraid, and Home Makeovers, she loved watching World News Tonight with David Muir. Betty worked at many places throughout her life, GECAC, Loblaws, George's Dinor, JFK Center, Support of Living, and Kaufman's Department Store.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her two sisters, Ruby Dickerson, and Morris Leona (Pat) Dickey (Andrew Dickey).

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 58 years of marriage, Melvin Witherspoon, her daughter Tracy Leona Witherspoon, two sons Robert Kaushma Witherspoon, (Marisol Borrero-Velez), Graham Alexander Witherspoon (Cara Ann Witherspoon). She loved and cherished her four grandchildren, Bailey Leona Witherspoon, Rylee Ann Witherspoon, Taylor Alexis Witherspoon, Gabriel Melvin Witherspoon, and many nieces and nephews who she loved and cherished. Betty is further survived by two special daughters that are part of the family, Linda Clark (Poojack), and Melissa Speicher; Calvin and Brenda Graham of Pittsburgh, PA, and Diva the dog.

The Witherspoon Family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the ICU unit of UPMC Hamot Hospital, and the staff at Nightingale Nursing Home for all of the care that you gave to Betty.

Friends are invited to call on the family Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at Victory Christian Center, 1129 Pennsylvania Avenue, Erie, with Bishop Dwane Brock presiding.
