Arthur M. "Art" Franz, age 80, of Erie, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Born in Erie on September 5, 1942, he was a son of the late George and Edith (Hart) Franz.
Art was a graduate of Academy High School, class of 1960, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was the owner of Cafco Coffee Service., and then general manager of McCormick Coffee Co., until his retirement. He then worked for Erie Beer in sales. He played for the City Rec Softball League for many years. He was a longtime football coach at both St. Joseph's and for the Bay City Athletic Association, where he was past president. He enjoyed traveling, karaoke, going to see his Cleveland Indians play, and golfing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Stewart, Mary Ann Pattison, and Connie Stumpo.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol (Rhodes) Franz, of Erie; four children, Michael A. Franz, wife Julia, David A. Franz, wife Kellie, Susan L. Stenger, husband Shane, and Steven J. Franz, all of Erie; nine grandchildren, Adam Franz (Nicole), Emily Kunick (Justin), Alyssa Stenger, Amanda Stenger, Jeffrey Franz, Hannah Franz, Matthew Stenger, Jason Franz, Abigail Franz; and two great grandchildren, Arthur Franz, and Leon Kunick, several nieces and nephews.
Art's family wishes to thank the staff of AseraCare Hospice, and his niece and caregiver, Lisa Franz, for all their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children, or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 E. 38th Street, on Sunday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery will be private.
